How Uber Disrupted the Taxi Industry
In 2008, two friends in Paris couldn’t find a cab—so they created Uber.
Why Uber Succeeded:
- Problem A: Taxis were unreliable and expensive → Uber made hailing rides easy via an app.
- Problem B: Idle cars → Uber gave car owners a way to earn money.
- Problem C: Taxis owned vehicles → Uber’s light-asset model enabled fast scaling.
Rapid Scaling & Disruption:
Uber expanded globally within 4 years, often clashing with local laws but adapting fast.

Atomic Habits by James Clear
Maintain consistency, which isn't about striving for peak performance everyday but about avoid bad performance for most of the days. You may ask why most? Just like an election, it does not matter how many actual votes a party gets, but who got the majority of the votes to win the election. Identity is a reflection of habits, and identity influences habits. Be system-focused/identity-focused and not result-focused, so that you will be happy with just running the system, and results are temporary. Results are a side effect of a good system. 4 stages: Cue, Craving, Response, Rewards. Use the environment to your advantage (have a specific setup for each task). Relationship with the context are the cues to be kept, or changed.
